What do you care in August about Christmas??? There is a lot until Christmas. Ei, that’s not like that. Most of the people I would ask when they start the advertising for Christmas, would say that in Novermber, maybe October depending on the service/product they offer.
What happens in online? When people start to search specifically for Christmas offers or services? When we should be present on search engines? We get an answer, with relative data from Google Insights for Search.
Google Insights for Search is a free tool offered by Google who shows the searches volume (relative to the maximum point of searches) in a specifically geographical area on a given period of time.
For example, is we have a hostel in Romanian mountains and we want to see if there is seasonality related to cazare searches in the last 3 years in Romania, we will choose in Time Range: 2009, 2008, 2007 and in filter area cazare as below; we can see that there is a searches peak in April – September.

For cazare munte the searches volume decreased in 2009, and seasonality is more fragmented. We can notice though, peaks in Easter, summer and autumn seasons.
If we do the same for Christmas, we see that the users start to search for cazare craciun at beginning of September, earlier (with few days though) every year.

It’s interesting than in 2009, there is a peak in December 20th-26th.
Results changes if we add another term search pensiune craciun:
It seems that people started to search more specific, and we can see that pensiune craciun and cazare craciun searches volume is greater in 2009 than in 2008 or 2007. Very important, the highest peak for these searches in 2009 was recorded in the week October 4th-10th!!!
So, September is coming. If you work in tourism, maybe you should start preparing for Christmas advertising
